Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-25
This policy explains how BedsideBench ("we", "us"), an independent publication operated from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, handles personal information on https://bedsidebench.com.
The short version
- No accounts, no comments, no newsletter, and no analytics or advertising trackers.
- We don't set cookies.
- Your age-gate answer is saved in your browser's localStorage on your own device, so we don't ask again. It never leaves your device. Clear it at any time by clearing site data in your browser.
- Our hosting provider processes standard technical data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver and secure the site.
- If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply, and keep them no longer than needed.
- If you click an affiliate link, you leave our site. The retailer or affiliate network may set its own cookies to credit the sale. Their privacy policies apply.
What we collect and why
| Data | Source | Purpose | Legal basis (UK GDPR) | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Age-gate flag (bb_age_ok_v1) |
Your browser (localStorage) | Remember you confirmed you are an adult | Legitimate interests / strictly necessary | Until you clear it; never sent to us |
| Server and security logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps, URL requested) | Automatically, via our hosting/CDN provider | Deliver pages, prevent abuse, fix errors | Legitimate interests | Per provider's standard log retention |
| Emails you send us | You | Reply to you; handle corrections or privacy requests | Legitimate interests | Up to 24 months, then deleted |
We don't sell or rent personal information. We don't "share" it for cross-context behavioural advertising, in the sense used by US state privacy laws. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Service providers
- Hosting/CDN: Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Pages). Cloudflare processes request data to serve and protect the site.
- Email: [email provider — to be confirmed at launch].
- Affiliate retailers and networks: they process data under their own policies once you leave our site.
Some providers process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where UK law requires, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or adequacy regulations.
Your rights
- Canada (PIPEDA and applicable provincial law): you can ask to access or correct your personal information and withdraw consent, and you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
- UK (UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018): you can request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and object to processing. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
- US residents: depending on your state, you may have rights to know, delete and correct personal information, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We don't sell or share personal information.
To make a request, email [email protected]. We'll respond within the time the applicable law requires.
Changes
If we add analytics, a newsletter or any other data collection, we'll update this policy first. Where the law requires it, we'll also ask for your consent (for example with a cookie banner for UK visitors) before anything runs.
